IIST Announces Four New Education-Based Software Certifications Bringing the Total Number Available to Seven.

The 7 Educaiton Based Certificaitons offered through IIST/IISP

(PRWEB) February 13, 2011

As part of their continuous effort to advance the field of Software Engineering through education and professional certifications, The International Institute for Software Testing (IIST) and the International Institute for Software Process (IISP) announce FOUR new Education-Based Certifications in Software Testing, Software Quality Management, and Software Process Improvement. “This brings the total number of Education-Based Certifications offered by IIST and IISP to seven certifications,” says Dr. Magdy Hanna, Chairman and CEO of both IIST and IISP.

“One of the most effective ways to establish a profession is to institute formal educational programs that cover all areas of study that can serve the profession,” says Dr. Magdy Hanna. “An essential first step to developing these educational programs is to develop Bodies of Knowledge (BOK) that must be mastered by everyone who wishes to belong to the profession. Educating individuals on curriculum that is based on a well-established BOK is the only way to establish a profession and a discipline, and to change the perception that testing is an ad hoc activity that requires minimal training.”

The purpose of these Education-Based Certifications is to help individuals develop a career path in Software Testing, software Quality Management, and Software Process Improvement. “The new Certified Software Test Professional – Associate Level certification is an entry level certification that puts test professionals at the first step of their career. In my opinion, it is mandatory for every test professional to acquire the knowledge required by this certification,” says Dr. Hanna. “The Certified Software Quality Manager Certification (CSQM) is the highest level certification which prepares individuals who have been working in test management positions to go beyond the testing role and move from project level activities to corporate levels. “ Dr. Hanna added “This is a very exciting career opportunity for those who have been trapped in testing positions for many years.”

The International Institute for Software Testing (IIST) and the International Institute for Software Process (IISP) have taken the lead since 1999 to become the only providers of education-based certifications. “The value of any certification program lies in its ability to meet individuals’ diverse needs and interests for both breadth and depth of content, enabling improvement of job performance on a day-to-day basis,” says Dr. Hanna.

To achieve an Education-Based Certification, a candidate must attend a number of instructor-lead courses and pass a test for each course. Tests in Education-Based Certifications are not multiple choice or true/false type of tests. The Certifications’ Advisory Boards agreed that this model is vastly superior to certifications that are based on passing an exam and do not require a rigorous course of study.

To help software test professionals to develop careers in software testing and quality assurance, IIST provides the following chart. The chart depicts what the IIST recommends as a possible career path for individuals involved in software testing and quality management. Other paths are also possible based on the candidate’s professional development goals.
