CompassLearning Recognized as Education Technology Leader at South by Southwest Inaugural Learning and Technology Conference

CompassLearning Recognized as Education Technology Leader at South by Southwest Inaugural Learning and Technology Conference

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 29, 2011

CompassLearning, a national leader in personalized education technology solutions for grades K-12, was tapped to help lead the debut of the inaugural education technology conference, SXSWedu, held as part of the 18th annual SXSW Interactive Festival, the premier destination for emerging media.

Eric Loeffel, Chief Executive Officer at CompassLearning, joined industry leaders to discuss the business potential in the education industry. This is the first year that SXSW gathered compelling presentations and panels from the brightest minds in education and emerging technology. The three-day event also featured panels that focused on areas such as digital education, distance learning, video game development, multimedia, and open education resources.

Ron Reed, an educational technology and publishing veteran who helped put together the inaugural event, along with other schooling experts, believe there’s a technology-driven paradigm shift in education akin what’s happened in music and film, which made SXSW a logical platform for educational innovation.

“I think the dramatic changes in business models that we’ve seen in music and film are now occurring in education. There’s a seismic shift as it relates to technology and empowering educators and students,” stated Reed. “It is an opportunity to convene thought leaders to find ways to do things in a better, faster, more efficient, cost effective, and engaging way.”

“Texas is a natural laboratory for education innovation. The timing of the first SXSWedu is especially interesting, given the state’s budget crisis and looming cuts in education,” stated Loeffel. “It was an honor to participate in the inaugural SXSWedu conference and have the opportunity to highlight the importance of K-12 educational technology and digital learning.”

About SXSW- South by Southwest (SXSW, Inc.) is a private company based in Austin, Texas, with a year-round staff of professionals dedicated to building and delivering conference and festival events for entertainment and related media industry professionals. Tambellini Group 2010 SIS Market Report Reveals Trends and Leaders

Tambellini Group 2010 SIS Market Report Reveals Trends and Leaders

Irvington, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 03, 2011

The Tambellini Group (TTG), the world’s leading research and advisory firm for higher education executives, announces the availability of its annual research report: “2010 Student Information Systems: U.S. Higher Education Market Share, Insights and Trends.” Student information systems (SIS) include capabilities for enrollment, admissions, student billing, registration, grades, transcripts, academic advising, and student services.

In the paper, TTG analyzes and reveals data on SIS purchases made by U.S. higher education institutions in 2008 and 2009. The report focuses on the top vendors contracted by institutions in 2008 and 2009 with emphasis on 2009 data. Data is broken down both by institution size and institution type and shows which vendors captured which segments of the market in 2008 and in 2009.

According to the report, in 2009 approximately 114 U.S. higher education institutions, defined as individual campuses, selected a new SIS from a top-tier higher education software vendor. The top-tier vendors analyzed were Campus Management, Datatel, Jenzabar, Oracle PeopleSoft, SunGard Higher Education, and Top School.

Says TTG President Vicki Tambellini, “SunGard Higher Education remains the overall market share leader with 29% market share. Campus Management follows with 20% overall market share. SunGard Higher Education SIS products were selected most often in 2009, followed by Jenzabar. Higher education institutions are benefitting from the fact that fewer institutions are purchasing new SIS systems. The top vendors are offering very competitive proposals and flexible contracting terms in order to win new business.”

The 2010 report utilizes the full capabilities of the TTG Higher Education Technology Profile DatabaseTM and has expanded information regarding insights and trends, including specific information regarding how each of the Top Vendors are responding to changes in technology and changes in the economy.

Research data for the report was compiled by TTG and includes vendor sales through December 31, 2009. TTG maintains, updates, and delivers the most comprehensive database of institution technology profiles available. The company began tracking this data in 2001 in response to client requests, and today provides data to over 3,500 global organizations and institutions. TTG gathers and maintain data on SIS selections from a variety of sources, including press releases, institution materials (i.e. project websites and presentations), news articles, surveys, interviews, and vendor case studies. TTG data now exists for over 7,900 institutions, with more than 80 data fields and more than 30,000 technology products and vendors.

The full report –“Student Information Systems U.S. Higher Education Market Share, Insights and Trends 2010” is currently available. If you are a full time higher education employee, you are eligible for the discounted price of $ 1,495 for a campus-license or $ 495 for a single user license.
